PIVOT endorses Jeanette Quick
"PIVOT is proud to endorse Jeanette Quick for San Francisco Community College Board. The Community College Board of Trustees oversees the Chancellor and budget of City College, which is one of the largest community colleges in the country. Unfortunately, due to years of mismanagement, rapid turnover of Chancellors, and a lack of strategic planning and accountability of the administrators and Board, the College is in danger of losing its accreditation and running out of money to operate. This College currently serves approximately 60K students, including a number of Vietnamese and other Asian American students. Because of its issues, the College has recently cut hundreds of classes, which has led to dropping enrollment and a death spiral.
Jeanette is the daughter of a Vietnamese immigrant and is a first-time candidate for office. Jeanette is a consumer protection attorney with 15 years experience as both a leader in government and the private sector. She was a senior advisor to two United States Senators as well as lead counsel for financial services at two tech companies, and conducted investigations into predatory student loan and higher ed practices across the country. She is running to clean up City College's finances and re-focus the College on increasing diversity in students and faculty, as well as strengthening public-private partnerships to improve the workforce pipeline and enrollment. Jeanette is passionate about City College as she has been taking classes part-time for the past 3 years, and recently earned a Creative Writing certificate. She believes her first-hand experience as a student, paired with her expertise in financial services, will give her a unique and fresh progressive perspective to implementing lasting change at City College."
